With no class Monday, we start Tuesday with an A day.  So, I'll see you Wednesday!

This week is about some necessary yet a bit less creative stuff but some is cool, and some is downright scary!

Let's start with the fact that we are in a permanent war, a new "world war":

On Wednesday, your job is to learn all of the terms below.
  • Describe trends in emerging, evolving, and future computer technologies and their influence on IT practices.
    • Mobile technology, tablets, cloud computing, phablets, cell phone, smartphone, GPS, triangulate, SMS, MMS, Internet of Things (IoT), streaming, 5G
  • Recognize online risks and dangers in order to take appropriate actions to protect the business and self while using digital tools and resources.
    • Includes hacking, DOS, cyberwarfare, virus, antivirus, malware, cyberbullying, phishing, firewall, adware, cyberstalking, COPA, CIPA, digital footprint
  • Demonstrate ability to access, navigate and use online resources and technologies.
    • URL, domain, ISP, modem, P2P, video chat, social networks
What we will do is review the terms, decide on what we might be missing, and then assign terms.  Your job will be to make a Word document poster describing this for younger kids.  We will agree on a font and style as a group, and also follow "ethical" use of images.  To do this, we'll discuss how to use pictures that are "legal" to use.

Be sure to include links to both your information source and to your picture source.

On Friday, we will review the documents you made, for one uniform document.  Once it's approved, save it as a PDF, print it AND email it to

Then move on to your personal use of computers and ethics, safety, etc.:  Listed below are the standards from GCPS.  The core of the issue is good citizenship with electronics and communication, safety and responsibility.  You and a partner have today only to create a small series of posters, or some other effective advertising product.  What would really be effective to address a topic of your choice?
  • 10.1 Demonstrate positive cyber citizenry by applying industry accepted ethical practices and behaviors.
  • 10.2 Recognize the ethical and legal issues while accessing, creating, and using digital tools and resources in order to make informed decisions.
  • 10.3 Exercise digital citizenship as a lifelong learner.
    • a. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social technology interactions, permanence of digital footprints, online image and presence, etc.
  • 10.4 Understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.
  • 10.5 Describe personal and legal consequences of inappropriate use of resources and online content.
    • a. Plagiarism, piracy, illegal downloading, copy-right infringement, licensing infringement, inappropriate use of software, hardware and mobile devices.
  • 10.6 Identify security issues and trends affecting computers and information privacy.
    • a. Virus, open or free networks, user control methods, file sharing, etc.
  • 10.7 Describe the use of computer forensics to prevent and solve information technology crimes and security breaches.
