Yes, it's already the LAST week of August!  Make it a good week, you have a long weekend coming up!

During this week, it's all about data.  Go ahead and look at tech headlines, "Big Data" is the hot topic.  We will start with the basics of Excel, which should help all of you do your lab reports in science class.   Monday we will introduce Excel, by Tuesday you should finish the exercise.  We will review those individual exercise results Tuesday.
Also, during Monday/Tuesday, your teachers will be coming around to see your 3D animation to finish your scoring.  Later this week you'll take a multiple choice quiz on 3DS, similar to the one you took on Photoshop.

For the Excel lesson, click on the attachments below.    We will spend a day or two on learning the basics, then use a set of data to go deeper.  (The documents are also in the Shared > Tech Ed > IDT > Data folder)   For those who want a shortcut, copy this link into the Documents address:  S:\LanierHS_528\Student Work\Shared\TechEd\IDT

After completing the beginner assignments below, please complete the "Fantasy Baseball" assignment in the Shared drive.

(For Science Labs, doing a Scatter Plot and Line of Best Fit are common things.  Here are a couple of links on what they are, how to do them:

Then we will do one more set of data, something very similar to your lab work in classes here at Lanier.

Here's the summary:
  • Do the "Open Excel" assignment.  Use the other "Intro" document if you need help.  This assignment helps you to organize, color, etc.
  • Do the "Fantasy Baseball" assignment.  This helps reinforce basic calculations, find it in the Shared folder.
  • Next up, there's a "ScatterPlot" for you to try, in the shared folder.
  • Finally, there's the lab data exercise to try.
  • When you've practiced all of these, put a picture of one on a "Data" page on your portfolio, and described what you did.  Include a screenshot of the sports statistics ("Fantasy Baseball"), a scatterplot, the "Your grades", and the Temperature example.  4 pictures in total.
  • Friday you should have a portfolio with a 3D, Photoshop and Data page. ONE portfolio site, not 4 sites.  Each page should have a picture and descriptive text about what you accomplished (Data should have 4 pictures) .  In addition, add some personal style to the home page, with a welcome message.
