Final Exams are Wed, Thurs, Fri, so Monday and Tuesday will be spent giving you a preview of next semester, but also making sure all of those final grades are set.

Monday - many of you wanted to retake a quiz.  Today is the day, and only today.  Others: we are going to get you familiar with Unity3D, a tool that we will use next semester.
In particular, we are going to work on creating "Terrains".    Here's a link to our info:  http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/script-Terrain.html

Tuesday - you should all have a terrain done by today, and be ready to use it (or make a new one) when we return.  For those intrigued by Unity3D, we will be doing a lot of it, using many of the resources found here:  http://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/modules

The tips I showed in class:
  • First, when you create a project, make a folder for it.  I actually have a Unity Projects folder, then make a subfolder for each project.
  • To make a terrain, go to GameObject > Create Other > Terrain
  • Use the "brushes" to mold the terrain
  • To add light, go to GameObject > Create Other > Directional Light
  • To bring in the First Person controller, go to Assets > Import Package > Character Controller.  Click the "Import" button.  Then, when the Standard Assets folder appears, open the Character Controller folder, and drag the First Person onto your terrain.  Make sure it's standing above the terrain!
  • To add textures to the terrain, go to Assets > Import Package > Terrain Assets   Click on the "Import" button.  Then, to use terrain, click on the terrain in the Hierarchy window, click on the paint brush, Edit Textures, Select, Double-click a texture, then brush!  Your first texture choice will affect the whole terrain, the second will be more like a paint brush.
